Mpox Crisis in Uganda: Soldiers Briefed on Safety

(Singo) – Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel have been urged to remain vigilant and follow strict preventive measures as the Mpox outbreak continues to spread.

Addressing troops at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre in Singo, Nakaseke District, Col Dr. Henry Kyobe, Incident Commander at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the severity of the outbreak. He stated that Mpox, which spreads through physical contact, poses a significant public health risk.




Col Dr. Kyobe revealed that Uganda has recorded 1,552 laboratory-confirmed Mpox cases and 12 fatalities. He outlined the symptoms, which include fever, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, and distinctive skin lesions.




Dr. Kyobe stressed the importance of adhering to health guidelines, both to protect individual soldiers and to prevent the virus from spreading further within communities.




The Ministry of Health has consistently urged the public to remain alert, follow established protocols, and take measures to safeguard themselves and others against the disease.
