Moroto, Uganda – Ugandans in the Karamoja region can now be guaranteed that they will peacefully celebrate Christmas without any more disturbance from incidents of cattle rustling and burglary.

The evidence is currently seen following the free movements in and outside Karamoja, especially in Northern Karamoja, which comprises Kotido, Kaabong, Karenga, and Abim.

The movements along these routes were so tricky after the Karimojong rustlers launched road ambushes and massive commercial cattle rustling.

It should be noted that this positive development was realized three months ago after the joint security forces, Army, Police Astu doubled up their operational skills, including community dialogues. From October this year, there has been some relative peace, with no road ambush incidents being registered across the region, although there were still small pockets of animal thefts like in any other region.

Senior Commissioner of Police and also commandant of Anti-stock theft Unity said when there is peace in Karamoja, then the entire country is peaceful.

He said as the forces, they will continue mobilizing the locals to shun criminality and embrace education and peace.

Mr. Francis Chemusto, the regional police commander South Karamoja, however, has advised the remaining few criminal elements who think they will continue disturbing people during this festive season to go for a holiday and repent.

He also urged the church leaders, hotels, and taxis to be cautious about the people they receive and transport, adding that some criminal elements target such days to plan for their criminal activities.
