UPDF Calls for Continuous Training in Moroto Ceremony

(Moroto) – Uganda's UPDF has emphasized the importance of ongoing training for soldiers to boost mission success, with leaders urging discipline, skill application, and community engagement.

(Moroto) – Major General Don William Nabasa, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3rd Infantry Division, has stressed that continuous training is essential for soldiers to stay mission ready. Speaking at a pass-out ceremony held at the Moroto Army Barracks, Maj. Gen. Nabasa addressed the graduating class of 34 junior officers and 366 soldiers who completed an intensive two-month tactical course, encouraging them to utilize their new skills to protect the nation effectively.

Maj. Gen. Nabasa urged the soldiers to carry out their duties with dedication and to foster strong relationships with the local community, which he referred to as UPDF’s “best allies” in promoting Uganda’s socio-economic development. He also reminded them of the need for discipline, advising against risky behavior that could compromise their performance.




Colonel Richard Obura Kidega, Commander of the 403 Brigade, called on training staff to ensure all soldiers receive thorough instruction, equipping them to handle complex situations and meet mission goals. He emphasized that comprehensive training is necessary to develop well-prepared soldiers capable of adapting to various challenges.

During the ceremony, three standout trainees received special recognition. Second Lieutenant Daran Olam was awarded Best Overall, Private Lokiru Alfred was named Best Ranger, and Private Aliganyira Hellen received the award for Best Female Trainee.

The event was attended by senior UPDF officials, including Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Moroto, Ms. Adupa Dinah Lorika. Other notable guests included brigade commanders and representatives from the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, and the Internal Security Organisation.
