Logistics officers in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have been strongly advised to avoid corruption and mismanagement in their duties. This warning came after a three-day retreat for logisticians at the College of Logistics and Engineering in Magamaga.
Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany, the General Officer Commanding Reserve Force, represented the Chief of Defence Forces at the retreat. He stressed that UPDF resources should be used to maintain peace, not for personal gain. “The Commander-in-Chief has always warned us against mismanagement of logistics and fuel. As logisticians, we must address his concerns by managing logistics properly and stop the wrong mindset of getting rich quickly by desisting from all corrupt tendencies,” said Lt Gen Otema.
He highlighted the importance of effective planning and management of logistics for the smooth execution of UPDF operations.
Brig Gen Godwin Karugaba, the Joint Staff – Logistics, explained that the retreat was organized under the theme, “Achieving self-sustainment through logistics and engineering strategic planning.” The goal was to critique, review, and develop better logistics and fuel management strategies with appropriate control measures in the UPDF.
The event gathered Principal Staff Officers – Logistics from various divisions and logistics officers from formations equivalent to divisions.
