UPDF Pays Tribute to Fallen Pilot Lt Allan Tukamuhabwa Kapando

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has honored the memory of Lt Allan Tukamuhabwa Kapando, one of the pilots tragically lost in the army helicopter crash in Ntoroko District on January 2, 2024, describing him as an “extraordinary serviceman.”

During the incident, which claimed the lives of two soldiers and civilian John Mukidi, UPDF noted that Lt Tukamuhabwa had “died a hero” in the line of duty. The fallen pilot’s significant role in the fight against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants in Eastern DR Congo was highlighted by the UPDF.




Entebbe Air Force Wing Commander Brig Gen Chris Kasaija, speaking at Lt Tukamuhabwa’s burial in Seeta Village, Kinuuka Sub-county, Lyantonde District, emphasized the pilot’s achievements, stating, “He had done his basic flying course and had reached the peak of flying advanced combat helicopters (Cobra Squadron).” Kasaija commended Lt Tukamuhabwa for his dedication to duty and assured the family of UPDF – Air Force’s support during these challenging times.




Describing Lt Tukamuhabwa as a unique and committed pilot, UPDF highlighted his seriousness about routine duties and his expectation of positive results each time he went to work. The burial ceremony saw East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker James Kakooza expressing condolences to the family and pledging to support the education of the deceased pilot’s children.




Kakooza emphasized Uganda’s commitment to pan-Africanism, ensuring security and prosperity in the East African region by combating insecurity.
