Last evening, at approximately 6:40 pm, a group of suspected terrorists carried out an attack that resulted in the tragic deaths of two tourists and the driver of their vehicle on the Katunguru – Mweya – Katwe road within Queen Elizabeth National Park. The attackers also set the tourists’ vehicle on fire.
The motive behind this attack is believed to be a response to the ongoing operations conducted by UPDF (Uganda People’s Defence Forces) inside the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the aim of diverting attention away from Operation Shuja. In response, UPDF is committed to intensifying its efforts to protect the people from such heinous acts.
To address this threat, a combined force comprising UPDF, Uganda Police Force, and Uganda Wildlife Authority is collaborating and dedicating all available resources, both technological and physical, in the pursuit of these terrorists. Their objective is to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice.
It is important to note that this was an isolated incident, and Uganda remains a secure and safe destination for tourists. Measures are being implemented to maintain and enhance the safety of the country.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
