Major General Don William Nabasa, the Commander of the UPDF 3 Infantry Division, addressed troops recently, urging them to consider prudent investment in income-generating activities that can sustain them beyond their military service. He emphasized the importance of investing in projects that do not exceed 80 percent of their budget, cautioning against overcommitting resources.

These remarks were made during the handover ceremony at Moroto army barracks, where Colonel Robert Katanaka handed over command of the 203 Anti Air Craft (AAA) Brigade to Lieutenant Colonel Moses Odeke. Colonel Katanaka, the outgoing commander, is scheduled to retire by the end of April 24. Major General Nabasa commended Colonel Katanaka for his efforts in enhancing the brigade’s manpower and conducting refresher training to improve soldiers’ capabilities.

Maj Gen Nabasa urged commanders and key staff officers to extend their support to the new leadership of the Brigade. Additionally, he advised officers approaching retirement to make wise investment decisions, warning against projects that could deplete their resources without proper management.

Highlighting the unique skills and discipline acquired through military service, the presiding officer emphasized that these qualities equip personnel for a successful transition to civilian life, even in retirement. Brigadier General Felix Busizoori, the Deputy 3 Division Commander, expressed gratitude to Colonel Katanaka for his dedicated service spanning 40 years, urging troops to emulate his exemplary conduct.

Colonel Robert Katanaka, in his farewell remarks, acknowledged the support received from UPDF leadership during his tenure. He also appreciated the Division leadership for integrating the Brigade into its command and administrative structures following the dissolution of the former Air Defence Division. Colonel Katanaka emphasized discipline, resilience, and integrity as key values driving the brigade’s success.

In his acceptance speech, Lieutenant Colonel Odeke expressed gratitude to the army leadership and his predecessor for entrusting him with the new role and providing mentorship. The handover ceremony was attended by UPDF senior and junior officers from the 203 AAC Brigade, marking a significant transition in leadership within the military ranks.
