There is a lot of panic in the youth section of Northern Uganda as the chairperson of the Lira Youth Council, Hon. Ogwang Shedrick, has turned his political ambitions towards contesting for the position of Northern Youth MP under the NRM party ticket come 2026.

He added that he wants the youth to benefit at all levels irrespective of their education level, color, or tribe from various government programs in their areas. Ogwang stated that the youth are currently not benefiting fully from government programs such as Emyooga, YLP, PDM, among other initiatives and projects in Northern Uganda.

He said many youth in Acholi sub-region, Lango, Karamoja, and West Nile have expressed massive support for his ambitions for the MP position. Ogwang Shedrick has called upon the youth to rally behind him as he seeks a bigger opportunity to be in the 12th Parliament of Uganda as their ambassador of service delivery.

Ogwang expressed this during a media briefing at Town View Annex Hotel in Lira City while addressing a section of journalists on Wednesday. “I am also having ambitions to hold a higher position in this country, including being an MP. So, I am going to run for the position of Northern Youth MP come 2026 because I am about to cross the river,” said Ogwang.

According to him, young people are going to be the dream of this country. He added that once he makes it to the 12th Parliament, he wants the youth to benefit at a personal level from government programs, not just as a group. Ogwang will face other candidates from different political parties once the Independent Electoral Commission declares the campaign period.
