Kenya retained honors in the 6th edition of the prestigious Victoria Golf Cup at the par 72 Kitante golf course despite a draw against Uganda on Saturday. The Kenyan team secured the same number of wins as Uganda in the pulsating singles games, ultimately maintaining their status as defending champions.
Uganda needed to win 6 out of the 10 singles games to surpass Kenya and claim the trophy, last won by Uganda in 2019 at the same venue. Despite coming close, winning 5 games, Uganda fell short of overtaking the Kenyan team, who also won 5 games, resulting in a draw.
“We were so close to claiming this trophy,” expressed Ibrahim Bagalana, a player from the Ugandan team. “We shall continue training and trusting the same team.”
The Kenyan High Commissioner, Gen George Owino, presented the trophy to both team captains during the award ceremony. The 7th edition of the Victoria Golf Cup is scheduled to be hosted by Kenya in September.
