Mbarara City have completed the signing of defender Stephen Othieno, defender Bakari Magumba, winger Pius Kaggwa, and midfielder Yunus Sibira.
Othieno rejoins the club on a two-year deal after leaving last year to join Blacks Power. Magumba joins from Gaddafi on a one-year deal, while Kaggwa and Sibira have both signed one-year contracts from UPDF and Gaddafi respectively.
The new signings will boost Mbarara City’s squad as they prepare for the 2023/24 season. The club have also named Wasswa Bbosa as their new head coach.
Othieno is a left-back who has previously played for BUL FC and Kirinya Jinja SS. He will be expected to add some experience to Mbarara City’s defense.
Magumba is a versatile defender who can play at left-back or centre-back. He has been a regular in the Gaddafi team in recent seasons.
Kaggwa is a pacy winger who can also play as a striker. He has been with UPDF for the past two seasons.
Sibira is a creative midfielder who has been with Gaddafi for the past four seasons. He has also played for BUL FC and Kirinya Jinja SS.
Mbarara City will be looking to improve on their performance from last season, when they finished 10th in the Uganda Premier League. They will be hoping that the new signings can help them achieve their goals.
In addition to the new signings, Mbarara City have also lost some players, including striker Jude Ssemugabi, who has joined Kitara FC.
However, the club are confident that the new signings will be able to fill the void left by the departures.
With a new head coach and a number of new signings, Mbarara City will be hoping to challenge for a top-six finish in the 2023/24 season.
