Sports Minister, Hon. Ogwang, gave an update today about Namboole Stadium’s readiness for the upcoming CHAN and AFCON tournaments. Some people are finding it hard to believe Minister Ogwang’s statements. They say he promised three times in 2023 and about twice in 2024 that Namboole would be ready, but it hasn’t happened. Jonathan Odur, MP for Erute South, mentioned that Minister Ogwang went to Lira and introduced an Egyptian contractor to build Aki-Bua Stadium. He promised the people of Lango that work would start in one week. But it’s now been 2-3 months, and no work has begun yet.

Speaker Anitah Among asked Amos Lugoloobi, Minister of State for Planning, to make sure the remaining Shs 17.763 Billion is released for Mandela National Stadium renovations. This request came after it was revealed that the Ministry of Finance ignored three letters from First Lady & Minister of Education & Sports, Janet Kataaha. She asked for all the Shs 97.9 Billion to be released to finish the project. State Minister for Finance, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, promised that the Shs 17 Billion balance for Namboole works would be available to ensure the project gets done.

“We are going to start the process today to make sure the money is ready.”
