UPDF Wins Moroto Cup

Brigadier General Felix Busizoori, the Deputy Commander of UPDF 3 Division, encouraged both the sports community and locals in Moroto to engage in sports activities that promote peace and unity, aiming to drive socio-economic progress in the Karamoja Sub-region.

Speaking at the award ceremony of the friendly EID EL FITR cup finals held at Boma grounds in Moroto Municipality, Brig Gen Busizoori emphasized the importance of peace and unity for development. He urged everyone to embrace these values, stating, “I urge you to embrace peace and foster unity as a precursor for development.”

Brig Gen Busizoori highlighted UPDF’s commitment to supporting sports activities and other Social Corporate Responsibilities (SCR) as part of its effort to strengthen its relationship with the people, whom he referred to as their ‘best allies’.

Mr. Anying Nelson, the District Sports Officer for Moroto, expressed gratitude to UPDF for its support in promoting sports activities in the district and across Karamoja. He encouraged individuals with talent and ability to engage in sports, noting that disciplined players could be identified and nurtured from grassroots to national levels through effective sports administration.

Imam Wahab Abduhaman Suleiman Ssebanenya, Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee for the EID EL FITR Cup tournament, thanked all participating teams for their discipline and commitment throughout the tournament. He disclosed that 14 teams took part in the tournament, culminating in UPDF’s 3 Division Green Stars emerging as champions, defeating AL-WATAN with two goals scored by Privates Ogutu Ismail and Nadiope Faizal in the final match.

As a reward, the winning team, UPDF 3 Division Green Stars FC, received a trophy, a bull, and golden medals. The second runners-up, AL-WATAN FC, were awarded two goats and silver medals, while the third runners-up, UPDF 3 Division Shooters FC, received a cash prize of 150,000 Ugandan Shillings.

The tournament’s final was attended by Mr. Lobong Albino, Chairperson of Moroto District Football Association (MDFA), along with security officers from UPDF, UPF, UPS, ASTU, and numerous sports enthusiasts.
