St. Allen’s Wins Inaugural Kisoro Junior Debate Championship Focused on Climate Action

St. Allen’s Nursery and Primary School has been crowned winner of the inaugural Kisoro District Junior Debate Championship (KJDC), an event organized by senior five student Susan Melisa from Kisoro Vision Secondary School.

The debate focused on the timely themes of climate change and environmental conservation.




Held at St. Allen’s, the championship brought together six primary schools from across Kisoro District: St. Allen’s, Bright Valley Junior School, Ineza Parents School, Seseme Primary School, Kisoro Parents Junior School, and Rugabano Primary School.




St. Allen’s emerged victorious, earning the championship trophy, gold medals, and other awards. As a gesture of appreciation and environmental advocacy, all participating students received tree seedlings.




Mbabazi Nicholas, Director of KJDC, officially announced the results and applauded both the students and their patrons for their dedication and preparation. He expressed optimism for next year’s edition, pledging improvements and expanded participation.

John Twinomunjuni, patron of the St. Allen’s debating team, attributed the win to strong organization, confidence, and consistent practice. He reaffirmed his commitment to nurturing debating talent, with the goal of achieving recognition at national and international levels.

Event organizer Susan Melisa explained that the competition aimed to build debate skills across the district and encouraged continued support to make next year’s edition even more impactful.




Christopher Ruzaza, founder of Kisoro Parents Junior School and an attendee, praised the students for demonstrating environmental awareness, critical thinking, and research skills. He urged the Kisoro District education authorities to increase their involvement in such initiatives to better prepare learners for broader platforms.

Ruzaza also commended Susan Melisa for her leadership and vision in initiating the KJDC and expressed hope for greater participation in future competitions.

Kanyesigye, manager of the Red Cross in Kisoro District, emphasized the value of debates in developing essential life skills. He noted that such platforms can help shape future leaders, philosophers, and critical thinkers.




The inaugural KJDC was widely celebrated as a milestone in promoting debate culture among students in Kisoro, while simultaneously raising awareness about crucial environmental issues.
