Express FC, under the management of former Vipers coach Alex Isabirye, dominated Vipers in a resounding 2-0 victory at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku. The reigning champions, Vipers, aimed to bounce back from their previous 3-2 defeat against BUL but faced formidable opposition from a determined Express side.

Express took the lead in the 38th minute with Isma Kawawulo finding the net, and the team successfully maintained their advantage until halftime. Despite Vipers’ attempts, they couldn’t challenge Express goalkeeper Abdul Kimera, who secured a clean sheet for the day.

Isabirye’s strategic coaching and the collective effort of Express players were evident in the comprehensive victory. In a crucial moment, Isaac Wagoina extended Express’ lead with a decisive goal, sealing the fate of Vipers.

The defeat marked another setback for Vipers, who recently parted ways with head coach Leonardo Neiva after a 3-2 loss to BUL on Christmas Eve. Interim head coach Richard Wasswa led Vipers in today’s match, but the team’s struggles continued.

The loss caused Vipers to drop to fourth place on the league table, trailing eight points behind leaders BUL and falling behind Kitara and Maroons in second and third places, respectively.

For Isabirye, the victory against his former team added to his successful start with Express, securing his second consecutive win in four games since taking over as head coach earlier in the month. Express had previously faced defeats against SC Villa and Kitara but rebounded by defeating NEC and now Vipers.

In other Uganda Premier League results on Saturday, Maroons dominated Gaddafi with a 5-0 victory at Luzira Prisons grounds, while SC Villa secured a 1-0 win against Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu, with Charles Lwanga scoring the decisive goal.
