Daniel Ojara, Oyam – The community in Loro Adigo Parish, Loro Sub-County, Oyam District, is living in fear after a stray leopard invaded the area in October and is still reported to be active in November.

The leopard has reportedly killed 53 domestic animals: 14 cattle, 30 goats, 4 sheep, and 5 pigs.

Patrick Okunu, the LC III Chairperson of Loro Sub-County, Oyam District, says the leopard poses a threat to human life, as it is capable of attacking people. Okunu added that the matter has been reported to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

However, whenever rangers attempt to escort the leopard back to the park, it disappears. Despite several attempts since October, the leopard continues to cause problems for the community.

When contacted for comment, Wilson Kagoro, a warden at Murchison Falls National Game Park, confirmed the report. He stated that UWA rangers have been deployed to the area in search of the leopard since October.

He also mentioned that they have been trying to escort the animal back to the park, urging the community to coordinate with them to safely return the leopard to the park, despite the animal’s tendency to hide.
