Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has announced that his new artificial intelligence (AI) startup, xAI, will make its debut on Saturday. This announcement was made on X, the social platform owned by Musk.
Musk filed new business paperwork for xAI in Nevada in April, and in July, he revealed his intentions to launch the AI company, positioning it to compete with other efforts backed by major tech firms.
Previously, Musk expressed concerns about the potential risks associated with AI, emphasizing the need to prevent scenarios where AI “goes wrong and destroys humanity.” According to the xAI website, the company’s mission is to “understand the true nature of the universe.”
In August, xAI announced that it was actively recruiting creators, teachers, and curators, encouraging individuals to direct message the company with “evidence of your most exceptional work.”
While many details about the company’s technology remain undisclosed to the public, it is anticipated that xAI will likely resemble and compete with other leading AI technologies such as OpenAI, Google, and Amazon, all of which have developed highly popular chatbot technologies in the past year.
xAI’s team is composed of professionals who are alumni of well-known companies, including DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Tesla. According to a statement from the company, team members have significantly contributed to key methods in the field of AI and have played pivotal roles in the development of major breakthroughs in the industry.
Greg Yang, the co-founder of xAI, has expressed online that the technology being developed by the company will play a central role in advancing AI to the next level.
