RUBANDA, UGANDA – Police in Rubanda District have launched a manhunt for unidentified individuals who vandalized a campaign billboard featuring Finance Minister Henry Musasizi and attacked the home of one of his key political coordinators with acid.
The incident took place on Sunday night in Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda East Constituency. The suspects reportedly destroyed a billboard displaying images of President Yoweri Museveni and Minister Musasizi at Busimuriko Trading Centre.
Later, they sprayed acid on the residence of Francis Kibeda, the LC1 Chairperson for Rwarugambwa and a known Musasizi campaign coordinator.
Kibeda, who had earlier received threats allegedly linked to his support for Minister Musasizi over rival candidate Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, previously suffered assault along with another campaign team member while transporting election materials.
He has since filed a formal complaint at Rubanda Central Police Station.
The incident has sparked concern among local leaders and residents. Augustine Byarugaba, a catechist at Kibuzigye Catholic Centre, called for government intervention to promote peace and tolerance in the face of escalating political tensions.
He also expressed disappointment over the reported release of individuals previously arrested for stoning Minister Musasizi’s vehicle.
Authorities are urging members of the public to remain calm and to report any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, as efforts continue to ensure community safety during the election period.
