Three Karenga District Officials Arrested Over Corruption Allegations

Three Karenga district officials were arrested and detained at Karenga Central Police Station on corruption allegations during a major crackdown on the vice.

The accused officials are Omello John Bosco, the District Commercial Officer, Alfred Lokyan, the Minister for Works, and Nasur Charles, the District Water Engineer.




The arrests followed a monitoring exercise and service delivery meeting in Karenga District headquarters, led by Maj Martha Asiimwe, Head of the RDC Secretariat/Anti-Corruption Unit, Office of the President. Bamwine Fred, Commissioner in charge of RDCs in the Office of the President for the Karamoja region, also participated.




Sources indicate the officials face embezzlement charges. The exact amount allegedly misappropriated remains under investigation, but sources suggest it involves millions of shillings.




Maj Asiimwe commended the security agencies for their efforts in combating corruption. “We are committed to ensuring that those who engage in corrupt practices are brought to justice,” she stated.

The people of Karenga District and the wider Karamoja region welcomed the arrests, viewing them as a positive step towards eradicating corruption.

The three officials are expected to appear in court soon to face charges. The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and further arrests may occur.




In a related development, Maj Asiimwe and Bamwine Fred held a meeting with district officials and local leaders in the Karamoja sub-region to discuss improving service delivery. The meeting focused on healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
