Accolades were bestowed upon the one hundred mid-sized companies that stood out in the 2023 Top 100 Survey in a vibrant gala dinner held in Kampala. Sunpower Sustainable Energy Limited, owned by Jonathan Bukenya, clinched the top position for the second consecutive year, with Awico Engineering Company and Plam Construction securing second and third places in northern Uganda.
Pinnacle Security and Birya United Agencies entered the prestigious Club 101 after surpassing an annual turnover of 25 billion shillings ($6.7 million). The collaborative effort of Uganda Investment Authority, dfcu Bank, audit firm KPMG, and Daily Monitor newspaper makes the annual survey possible.
During the ceremony, State Minister for Trade and Industry, David Bahati, highlighted that 30 percent of the recognized mid-sized companies operate in Manufacturing, 20 percent in Construction, and 18 percent in Agriculture. He commended the strides made in these sectors, urging companies to explore markets beyond Uganda, including the East African Community, the African continental market, the United States, and the European Union.
Minister Bahati encouraged companies to take advantage of tax and non-tax incentives provided by the Government through UIA and Uganda Revenue Authority. Charles Muduwa, the Chief Executive Officer of dfcu Bank, emphasized that with a clear vision, perseverance, and focus, these seemingly small companies have the potential to become business giants in the future.
