Minister Butime inaugurated the 5th board of Directors of Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and emphasized collaborative efforts to maintain Uganda’s position as a premier tourism destination. He stressed the importance of competition within the sector and the need for tireless promotion of Uganda’s attractions to rival destinations like Kenya and Tanzania.
Ms. Lilly Ajarova, CEO of UTB, expressed gratitude to the outgoing leadership for their foundational work. She welcomed the new board members, highlighting the opportunity to positively impact Uganda’s economy, culture, and communities through tourism.
Outgoing chairperson, Mr. Daudi Migereko, urged the incoming leadership to prioritize follow-up and timely implementation to enhance Uganda’s competitiveness in the tourism sector.
The newly appointed chairperson, Ms. Pearl Hoareau Kakooza, committed to continuing efforts to market Uganda and increase tourism revenue. She emphasized the importance of building on the achievements of the previous board to attract more visitors to the country.
The board comprises members from various sectors including civil aviation, finance, planning, wildlife authority, tourism, and hospitality. Their mandate includes marketing and promoting Uganda domestically, regionally, and internationally, as well as supporting investment and capacity development in the tourism industry.
