Museveni Explores Tourism Prospects with Ethiopian Investor

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni engaged in discussions with Tadiwos Getachew Belete, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kuriftu Resorts and Spa, during a meeting at State House, Entebbe. The meeting, held on Tuesday, June 25th, focused on exploring opportunities for investment in Uganda’s burgeoning tourism sector.

During the meeting, President Museveni emphasized Uganda’s peaceful environment and favorable climate, which he believes make the country an ideal destination for various categories of tourists. He expressed optimism about Balete’s interest in contributing to Uganda’s tourism landscape.




According to a statement from the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), Tadiwos Getachew Belete shared his vision with President Museveni, highlighting plans to enhance Uganda’s tourism offerings. This includes proposals for establishing amusement parks within forests and national parks, aimed at enhancing tourist experiences without compromising the natural environment.




Accompanying Tadiwos Getachew Belete were Ethiopian officials, including Ambassador Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu and Ms. Adiam Negash, who oversees tourism matters at the Ethiopian Embassy. Also present was Ms. Tigist Bekele, a senior diplomat involved in diplomatic engagements.




The discussions underscored mutual interests in fostering economic cooperation between Uganda and Ethiopia, particularly in the tourism sector, which plays a pivotal role in both nations’ economies. The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and expand Uganda’s tourism infrastructure.

President Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment for investors, highlighting the government’s initiatives to streamline regulatory processes and provide incentives for tourism-related investments. He welcomed Balete’s proposals and expressed readiness to support initiatives that promote sustainable tourism development.

A statement from the Presidential Press Unit stated that “The engagement between President Museveni and Tadiwos Getachew Belete signals a promising step towards enhancing Uganda’s tourism sector through strategic partnerships and innovative projects.”




It added that stakeholders anticipate further developments that could bolster Uganda’s position as a premier tourist destination in East Africa and beyond as discussions continue.
