Uganda Airlines’ ambitious expansion plans are a clear sign of the carrier’s efforts to become a major player in both regional and international aviation.

(Kampala) – Uganda Airlines has announced plans to expand its network significantly, targeting international destinations like London, Saudi Arabia, and China, along with new intra-Africa routes to Cape Town, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) by mid-2025.

The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Adedayo Olawuyi, shared the details of the planned expansion at a travel agents forum in Johannesburg on October 30, 2024. Olawuyi confirmed that Uganda Airlines is aiming to launch these new routes within the next six months, before the end of its financial year in July 2025.

One of the most anticipated routes will be between Entebbe and London Gatwick, which is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025. Uganda Airlines has already secured four weekly slots for this service. Further details regarding the launch and schedules of the London flights will be announced soon.

In addition to London, the airline is prioritizing new destinations such as Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Guangzhou in China, Khartoum in Sudan, and Goma in the DRC.

Currently, Uganda Airlines operates flights to Dubai and Mumbai, alongside 14 other African cities. With this planned expansion, the national carrier aims to strengthen its international presence and connect Uganda to key global markets.

As part of its fleet growth, Uganda Airlines is set to receive four new Airbus A320 aircraft and two Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline has also been working on enhancing its global distribution system (GDS) partnerships with leading providers such as Amadeus, Travelport, and Sabre, which will improve booking and distribution capabilities.
