(Kampala) – Uganda will host the first ever Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference on November 20-21, 2024, at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The conference, themed “The Uganda-Kenya Coast Partnership: Promoting Job Creation, Inclusivity, and Sustainability,” aims to strengthen tourism collaboration between Uganda and Kenya’s coastal regions. The event will bring together over 500 tourism professionals from both countries to foster cooperation and promote joint tourism ventures.
Despite Kenya being Uganda’s primary source of tourists, many Kenyan travel agents have historically focused on promoting neighboring Rwanda, particularly for its mountain gorilla experiences. This conference, however, gives Kenyan stakeholders an opportunity to explore Uganda’s diverse tourism attractions firsthand, creating a platform for greater cross-border tourism promotion.
As part of the event, Uganda Airlines’ new Entebbe-Mombasa flight route will be highlighted as a convenient alternative to the Nairobi connection, improving accessibility between the two countries. This new route aims to simplify travel for tourists and tourism professionals alike.
In preparation for the conference, 70 Kenyan tourism agents are currently touring Uganda, visiting major attractions such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Source of the Nile. A golf tournament held on November 9, 2024, further facilitated interaction and camaraderie between the two nations, setting a positive tone ahead of the conference.
