Truck Plunges into Nyagak River After Head-On Collision in Zombo

A truck carrying alcoholic beverages plunged into the Nyagak River in Zombo district after a head-on collision with a motorcycle.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 24, around 10:00 AM at Mathawele Village, Oyeyu Parish, Nyapea Sub-County.

Details about the truck’s registration number and the identities of those involved in the accident are still unclear. Both vehicles are currently submerged in the river, awaiting the arrival of traffic police from Paidha Central Police Station.

An eyewitness, identified only as Moses, reported that the truck was speeding and nearly collided with the motorcycle, which was carrying three passengers.

“The motorcycle rider and passengers jumped off, allowing the bike to fall into the water, while the truck plunged in with both occupants,” he said, noting that the motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries.

Another witness, Jaloch Crespo, confirmed that the critically injured victims, including the motorcycle rider, were rescued from the water and transported to Nyapea Hospital. He described the scene as chaotic.

Joe Ubedgiu, the area councillor for Oyeyu Parish, stated that no fatalities have been reported but promised to keep the public updated.

Fred Onenarach, chairperson of the Zombo district boda boda association, confirmed that the motorcycle rider belongs to the Padea boda boda association and was returning from a visit to Nyapea Hospital when the accident occurred. He urged riders to prioritize safety as the festive season approaches.

As of press time, police from Paidha Central were still on their way to the scene, where a crowd had gathered to witness the aftermath of the collision.
