UCC and Kapelebyong District Collaborate to Equip Youth with ICT and Farming Skills

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has partnered with the Kapelebyong District Local Government to equip youth with essential skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and agriculture.

John Joseph Opolot, the Kapelebyong District training coordinator and Akoromit Sub-County Agriculture Officer, said the program aims to train 100 young farmers on using ICT to identify genuine seeds and pesticides.

This pioneering program is the first of its kind in Kapelebyong District and is exclusively offered to youth in Katakwi and Kapelebyong districts within the Teso sub-region, Opolot added.

Beneficiaries of the training have expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude. Pius Opio from Odukulu village noted, “I’ve never used a computer before, but today I’ve learned how to access markets for my crops.”

Jenifer Eunis Liya added, “I’m excited to learn about innovative farming techniques using ICT, and I urge fellow youth to harness these skills effectively.”

The five-day training, facilitated by UCC, is currently underway at the Kapelebyong Town Council Boardroom.

Kapelebyong District Chairperson Francis Akorikin urged the beneficiaries to put the skills to use and not let them go to waste. He also called upon extension officers to follow up with the trained youth to encourage them to do more.
