During the Ugandan Pharma Health Care exhibition held at UMA showgrounds, Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Achieng emphasized the importance of reducing imports by encouraging manufacturers of medical equipment to establish manufacturing plants within Uganda.
Dr. Achieng urged investors seeking land to utilize the Industrial parks spread across the country for the production of medical supplies domestically.
The exhibition, which attracted over 120 manufacturers and importers of medical equipment, saw participation from countries like India, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Kenya, and Bangladesh, among others.
Organizers, including Vijayanka Brighuvanshi, aimed to showcase the latest innovations and equipment vital for the medical field.
The Indian High Commission to Uganda, represented by Upender Singh Rawat, highlighted the exhibition’s role in enhancing collaboration between Uganda and India, not only in healthcare but also in various business sectors.
Dr. Ezra Rubanda, the executive director of UMA, emphasized the need for increased investment in local manufacturing of medical supplies. Currently, UMA hosts approximately 40 manufacturers of medical supplies, despite having a membership of 1,500.
