Prisons Woodball Club Gears Up for Uganda Open Championship

In the world of woodball, all eyes are on Prisons Woodball Club as they prepare to defend their title at the Coral-Coatings-sponsored Uganda Woodball International Open in Gulu City. This four-day event combines the African Championship and the Uganda Open, promising thrilling matches and intense competition.

Prisons Woodball Club clinched the men’s title in Mbale last season, leaving a lasting impression of their skills and determination. With their recent domination of the national league and the memory of their impressive performance, they are fully geared up for a spirited defense of their championship.

Preparation has been the key focus for Prisons Woodball Club, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for another title. Daily rigorous training sessions at the Uganda Christian University grounds have become their routine, where they fine-tune their skills and tactics to maintain their competitive edge.

Samson Rugongeza, a key figure in the team, is leading from the front and expressed his determination to bring joy to their dedicated fan base. He emphasized the importance of making their fans, especially at the Uganda Prisons Service, proud once again.

While Ndejje Corporates and Ndejje University remain significant challengers for Prisons, Makerere University Business School (Mubs) also has the potential to upset the defending champions. Rugongeza acknowledged the competition but firmly stated their determination to leave Gulu as champions.

Ladislas Mudingotto, known for his strategic contributions, added to the team’s optimism. He highlighted that their opponents are feeling the pressure, acknowledging Prisons Woodball Club as a formidable force. Despite the growing apprehension among rivals, Mudingotto emphasized their focus on their own game.

In a lighthearted moment, a suggestion was made to form a “United Front Against Prisons” by Peter Mutyaba of the Ministry of Public Services. Such jests highlight the growing reputation of Prisons Woodball Club as an indomitable force in Uganda’s woodball scene.

The tournament’s success is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Coral Coatings, which ensures that woodball enthusiasts can enjoy top-tier competitions. Last year’s winners in various categories were also recognized, showcasing the depth of talent in the woodball community.
