Uganda to Host Global Meeting for Telecommunication Regulators

Tthe Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) announced that it will be hosting the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) 2024 in Kampala. This symposium is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialized agency of the United Nations for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

Set to occur at the Speke Convention Centre in Munyonyo, the event is scheduled from July 1 to July 4, 2024. It is expected to bring together approximately 700 regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders from the telecommunication and ICT sectors worldwide.

The main goal of this symposium is to create a platform for participants to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and collaborate on implementing the best regulatory practices and policies in the field.

Fred Otunnu, the director of corporate affairs at UCC, highlighted the theme of GSR-24 as “Regulation for Impact,” underlining ITU’s dedication to fostering a regulatory environment that encourages innovation while ensuring the safety, privacy, and rights of digital users globally. The event will also include thematic sessions covering topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, climate space, and digital financial services.

This annual event serves as a crucial platform for regulators and industry experts to address emerging issues and trends in the constantly evolving ICT landscape. The symposium will comprise keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops focusing on critical topics like spectrum management, 5G deployment, digital inclusion, and cybersecurity.
