South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Uganda on Monday, April 15, 2024, for an official working visit, aiming to enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport, President Ramaphosa was warmly welcomed by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba, representing the Ugandan government.
President Ramaphosa’s visit comes at the invitation of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, demonstrating the mutual interest of both nations in strengthening diplomatic ties and cooperation across various sectors.
During his two-day visit, President Ramaphosa is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with President Museveni at State House Entebbe on Tuesday, where they are expected to deliberate on matters of mutual interest and explore opportunities for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, and regional security.
This visit marks President Ramaphosa’s second trip to Uganda, following his participation in the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit held in the country in January 2024. It underscores the commitment of South Africa to engage with Uganda and other African nations to promote peace, stability, and socio-economic development across the continent.
The discussions between the two leaders are likely to focus on key issues affecting both countries and the broader African region, including efforts to advance the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and promote intra-African trade and integration.
President Ramaphosa’s visit presents an opportunity for Uganda and South Africa to explore avenues for expanding cooperation in various sectors, such as agriculture, infrastructure development, education, and technology transfer, with the aim of fostering sustainable development and prosperity for their respective populations.
