At the annual SIAL Canada food exhibition in Montreal, Canada, nine women food exhibitors, organized under the African Woman Agribusiness Network (AWAN), captivated attendees from around the world with their diverse array of African foods.
The SIAL Canada food innovation trade show is globally renowned, drawing thousands of exhibitors and visitors. This year, it attracted over 1,000 exhibitors and brands from 44 countries, showcasing the rich diversity of the global food industry.
Led by AWAN’s chief executive officer, Joice Atuhaire Onegwa, the Ugandan team comprised nine women exhibitors offering modern food products tailored for the international market.
Among them were Eva & Nico, showcasing Uganda’s renowned coffee known for its exceptional aroma. Rabboni from Athari Ventures Ltd exhibited an assortment of dried fruits, including pineapples, jackfruits, mangoes, and apples, acclaimed for their organic production and high nutritional value.
The Mystical Rose Sisters presented high-quality bee honey, while Kwezi Coffee, Craft Coffee, and Africa Heaven showcased fresh fruits and Masha coffee, highlighting Uganda’s agricultural diversity.
Upon their arrival in Canada, the Ugandan team received a warm welcome from Uganda’s deputy head of mission, Allan Kajik, and defence attaché, Col. Bahoko Barigye, who joined them in Montreal for the exhibition.
Ambassador Kajik emphasized the tireless efforts of the Uganda High Commission in Canada to ensure the showcasing of Ugandan products in this prestigious international venue, attracting buyers from across North America and Canada.
The Ugandan exhibitors garnered significant attention, particularly in coffee and vanilla products. Their participation in the exhibition was made possible through sponsorship from the Trade Facilitation Office, Canada, and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda.
SIAL Canada’s focus on igniting innovation within the agri-food industry provides a platform for companies to gain insights into market dynamics and global food trends, empowering entrepreneurs like those from AWAN to showcase their products on an international stage.
