Entebbe, Uganda – Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Monday inspected the next-generation L-39 Skyfox jet, a state-of-the-art turbofan-powered trainer and light combat aircraft developed by Czech manufacturer Aero Vodochody.

During the inspection, a Czech delegation provided a detailed briefing on the aircraft, highlighting its modern materials, upgraded engine, and advanced avionics systems. The L-39 Skyfox is a significant upgrade over the Cold War-era L-39 Albatros, marking a new chapter in Uganda’s aviation capabilities.

The event was attended by Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi and other senior officers, who joined Gen. Kainerugaba in assessing the jet. In his remarks, the CDF emphasized the importance of advanced technology as a driver of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force’s growth, noting the remarkable progress from its early days when the force had no aircraft.

The inspection forms part of ongoing efforts to modernize the UPDF Air Force, enhancing pilot training, operational readiness, and Uganda’s regional security capabilities.
