New Year reception for members of the Diplomatic Corps took place at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, Denmark. Among the dignitaries, who attended Queen Margrethe II’s final bejeweled reception was Uganda’s Ambassador to Denmark, H.E. Margaret M. Otteskov.

HRM commended the Government of Uganda for ensuring continued security, and advocating for stability within the region. She, however, regretted not having visited the Pearl of Africa, which is a sprawling tourist destination, thanking Ambassador Margaret for promoting Uganda’s commercial, cultural and diplomatic interests in Nordic countries, especially Denmark.

At the function, the Queen was flanked by her son and heir, Crown Prince Frederick, and his wife, Crown Princess Mary, as she greeted the diplomatic corps. To note is that, Crown Prince Frederick assumed the throne on January 14, 2024, while his mother became the first Danish Monarch to abdicate in 500 years.

Ambassador Margaret conveyed His Excellency President Museveni’s greetings to HRM, referring the latter as a uniting figure and epitome of Denmark, who championed people to people linkages and cultural relations.

The Ambassador thanked HRM for her many years of good service, in fostering excellent cooperation between Denmark and Uganda, mainly through financial assistance channeled to refuge resettlement programs, revamping the judiciary and agriculture. She also extended a very peaceful and joyous retirement to Queen Margrethe II.
