The UPC party registrar, William Onyanga, has declared Sarah Aguti Nyangkori as the flag bearer for the Dokolo Woman MP By-election. This announcement came during the Dokolo District UPC conference held on Monday at Dokolo District.
Alebtong LCV Odongo DK, commonly known as “Triple Seven,” addressed the gathering at the UPC conference in Dokolo, expressing confidence that UPC will emerge victorious in the forthcoming by-election, come rain or shine.
Two aspiring candidates have withdrawn from the race in favor of Aguti Sarah Nyankori. Anna Okwir and Josephine Okullo have reached a consensus and pledged their support for Aguti, calling for unity within the party.
William emphasized that history may repeat itself, echoing sentiments from Jimmy Awany Cing Malo, a political assistant of Jimmy Michael Akena, who emphasized the significance of UPC in Lango politics, citing UPC as the party of Lango identity. He reassured supporters, stating that nobody should intimidate them, as the sealed votes for Aguti cannot be rigged.
Odongo DK referenced Article 1 of the Constitution of Uganda, highlighting that power belongs to the people, urging them to reject money from other candidates and vote for Nyangkori Sarah. He also mentioned Mzee Mikayo of Alebtong, who has blessed him and the UPC Party president. Odongo noted that over 500 youth have volunteered their motorcycles for mobilization during the Dokolo by-election.
Amolatar LC5 Chairman, Ocen Geoffrey Kiring, informed party members that the by-election in Dokolo District, slated for March 21, 2024, is a contest between UPC Party and NRM. Ocen cautioned some NRM members in advance, stating that while the margin in Oyam was small, Dokolo would mark a significant victory for UPC.
Chris Ongom, Regional Vice Chairman UPC Lango Sub-region, emphasized that selecting Aguti Sarah Nyankori as the flag bearer is the first step, with the second being her nomination.
