UPDF Alpha Battalion Arrests Suspect, Recovers Gun in Lamwo District

Lamwo, Uganda –  UPDF forces from Alpha Battalion, while conducting a night foot patrol, arrested a suspect identified as Okot Charles, a 24-year-old resident of Irumo Village, Ngasino Parish, Agoro Sub-County, Lamwo District.

According to Capt. Edrin Mawanda, PRO of the 5th Infantry Division, upon thorough interrogation on July 8, 2025, at around 11:00 hrs, the suspect led UPDF forces to the location where he had hidden weapons and other military items. Mawanda listed the following items recovered:




  • One (01) SMG rifle No. 56-121201110 with six (06) rounds of ammunition
  • One (01) bayonet
  • One (01) UPDF belt
  • One (01) T-shirt
  • One (01) bayonet (Note: “Bionett” corrected to “bayonet,” listed twice – confirm if two bayonets or just one)
  • One (01) South Sudan military uniform

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect, known to be involved in criminal activity in the area, was part of a bar fight on Sunday night in Irumo Parish, Agoro Sub-County.




After the altercation with other patrons, he allegedly returned with an AK-47 rifle and fired multiple shots into the air. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.




Lt. Col. Mubangizi Ipolito, Commander of the 1 Dumisha Brigade, thanked the local population for their good cooperation with the UPDF.

He further added that the UPDF remains committed to protecting the people of Uganda and their property.
