WhatsApp will stop working on a number of smartphones on October 24, 2023. This includes phones that are still running Android 4.1 or older.
The list of affected phones includes:
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- HTC One
- Sony Xperia Z
- LG Optimus G Pro
- HTC Sensation
- Samsung Galaxy S
- HTC Desire HD
- Motorola Xoom
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Nexus 7
These phones are losing WhatsApp support because they are not powerful enough to run the latest version of the app. Additionally, they are no longer receiving security updates from Google, which makes them more vulnerable to attack.
If you are using one of these phones, you will need to either upgrade to a newer phone or switch to a different messaging app.
Why is WhatsApp stopping support for old phones?
WhatsApp is constantly adding new features and improving security. To do this, they need to make sure that the app is running on a supported operating system with the latest security updates.
Older phones are not able to run the latest version of WhatsApp and are no longer receiving security updates from Google. This makes them more vulnerable to attack.
What should I do if I am using an old phone?
If you are using one of the phones on the list above, you will need to either upgrade to a newer phone or switch to a different messaging app.
