Where Did the Money Go? Kisoro MPs in Spotlight Over 100M Payments

Residents of Kisoro District are speaking out against their Members of Parliament (MPs) for allegedly receiving a 600 million Ugandan shilling cash bonanza from the President.

These funds, drawn from a 4 trillion shilling supplementary budget, were reportedly intended to help mobilize constituents in support of government programs. Each MP is said to have received a cash sum of 100 million Ugandan shillings.

However, residents claim the money is being used for personal gain rather than for improving district services. They argue that the funds would have been better allocated to essential sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.

Kisoro District Vice Chairperson, Nambajimana Alex, echoed the sentiments of many residents, stating that their MPs are not using the money for its intended purpose. He called for greater transparency and accountability in the use of these funds.

Political analyst Tumwesigye Aggrey condemned the perceived misuse of taxpayer money, linking it to potential corruption, bribery, and nepotism within the leadership.
