Women Entrepreneurs Urged to Embrace Technology for Growth

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) recently collaborated with Virtuous Woman, a women’s ministry focused on fostering independence and dignity among women in the corporate body’s bid to empower women in business in the country. The partnership aimed to equip women entrepreneurs with essential skills for leveraging technology in their business operations.

The event, hosted at Serena Hotel in Kampala, centered around the theme “Embracing Change in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” It attracted numerous businesswomen eager to learn how to integrate technology into their enterprises effectively.




Diana Kisaka, the Assistant Commissioner of Finance at URA, emphasized the urgency for women to embrace technology, highlighting its potential to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. She stressed the importance of active participation in leveraging cutting-edge technological advancements to stay abreast of changing trends, especially within the realm of revenue mobilization.




Furthermore, Kisaka urged women entrepreneurs to proactively enhance their understanding of taxation to facilitate smoother and more predictable business operations. This call to action underscores the significance of tax competency as a crucial aspect of sustainable business management.




Dr. Shogo Oyeniyi, a renowned Forbes coach from Nigeria, served as the keynote speaker at the event. He emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), describing it as a valuable tool that can significantly enhance productivity and efficiency across various sectors.

Dr. Oyeniyi outlined the diverse applications of AI, including its role in finance and cybersecurity. He highlighted its capacity to streamline transactions, detect and neutralize threats, control fraud, and facilitate communication through chatbots, among other functions.

From URA’s perspective, Ibrahim Bbosa, the Assistant Commissioner of Public and Corporate Affairs, shed light on the authority’s integration of AI into its client response structure. He discussed URA’s plans to implement AI-supported smart gates at borders, equipped with radiation monitors and facial recognition technology, to streamline customs management processes effectively.
