Mr. Eyen Moses, commonly known as “Yendo,” the director of Yendo School of Catering and Hotel Management, has urged youth to embrace hard work and avoid laziness to succeed in the future.
Located in the heart of Lira City at Central Park Cell, along the Lira-Soroti Highway, near Hotel Komar, Yendo has achieved success through perseverance, starting by heaping sweet potatoes during his youth, specifically between the ages of 20-24.
He recounted how he hired refugees for manual labor, such as heaping sweet potatoes, and paid them a token of appreciation. He invested in a large traditional land holding located at Awilem Cell, Boroboro East Ward, City East Division, Lira City.
At the age of 22, he purchased 17 bulls and, through diligent work in his sweet potato garden, secured a contract to sell sweet potato vines to an NGO for 9 million shillings. He also sold second-hand clothes, known as “tour,” in Owino Market in Lira municipality, generating income from multiple sources.
Eyen Moses, now 45 and a clan leader of the Palamyek clan, has earned millions of shillings through his catering services and school. He emphasizes the importance of vocational training, highlighting the school’s focus on hygiene and home management skills, which prepare students for future success.
He cited numerous successful catering events, including meals for religious congregations, the recent Ateker festival in Soroti, a parliamentary regional sitting in Gulu City, and a funeral ceremony with over 20,000 attendees.
In 2005, Yendo School of Catering and Hotel Management was founded with the goal of producing disciplined, competent, and skilled students to support community events such as weddings, workshops, religious gatherings, and other public events.
The Lira City-based Yendo School of Catering and Hotel Management offers courses in hotel management and catering, providing practical knowledge to the Lango sub-region and beyond.
Since its inception in 2005, the school has maintained a clear and organized management system, led by competent teachers.
Challenges faced by the school include a past accident involving students returning from an event, in which 38 were injured, and the need for land expansion to accommodate more students.
Through effective leadership and mentorship, Yendo has employed over 200 youth within and outside Lira, reducing the number of street children, vulnerable youth living in poverty, and unemployment in the Lango sub-region.
