Singer Ykee Benda, who previously organized his debut concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel in 2019, has announced the cancellation of his scheduled concert for May this year at the same venue. He explained that this decision was due to financial difficulties, as he shared in an interview with Bukedde TV on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Ykee Benda, whose real name is Wyliffe Tugume, had initially unveiled the concert plans in December 2022, along with promotional artwork posted online. However, the subsequent removal of these announcements generated speculation and inquiries from fans.

When questioned about the abrupt cancellation of the event, Ykee Benda revealed that the primary reason was a lack of funds required to host the concert successfully. He expressed his frustration with the financial aspects of organizing concerts, mentioning that some promoters are hesitant to collaborate with artists like himself, who they cannot easily exploit.

Ykee Benda elaborated, “I cancelled my concert because of a lack of finances. Concerts require substantial financial investment, and for us, as artists, it can be challenging to find supportive promoters. Some promoters take advantage of us, but when they realize the situation won’t be favorable for them, they opt not to work with us.”

Reflecting on his previous experience in 2019 when he organized his maiden concert independently, Ykee Benda mentioned that he might consider a similar approach in 2024. He stated, “I organized my first concert alone after just three years in the industry. It’s now been six years, so maybe in 2024, I will organize another one. We are well-prepared for it.”
