In Uganda, numerous students enroll in diverse fields such as law, medicine, social work, engineering, catering, and others at various universities and tertiary institutions every year.

Kudos to all parents/guardians who continue to support their children at all levels of education, ensuring they obtain quality education and graduate successfully. Despite criticism that the Ugandan education system is theoretical and less practical, resulting in a high percentage of unemployed youth in Uganda, graduates should not succumb to this narrative.

As a graduate, it’s essential to shift the mindset from being a job seeker to a job creator by implementing the theories learned in school to earn a living. While the knowledge gained during education may sometimes differ from real-life situations, graduates should be eager to learn and adapt. Seeking guidance from consultants and experts in the field of interest can contribute to becoming a better and more innovative professional.

Passion for one’s career is crucial for thriving in it. Being passionate enables individuals to overcome challenges, learn how to solve problems, and meet life needs and expectations. Despite the perception that the Ugandan education system is predominantly theoretical, efforts have been made to strike a balance between theory and practical aspects in various courses. Medical courses, engineering, teaching practice, law moots, among others, provide practical exposure, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge.

In conclusion, graduates not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also practical skills, empowering them to thrive in their careers and address the issue of unemployment after graduation.
