Lira, Uganda – Hon. Vincent Shedrick Obong Eyit, Lira City West Division MP, has congratulated President Yoweri Museveni on his recent wealth creation tour in the Lango sub-region, particularly regarding progress on the Parish Development Model (PDM).
In a three-page letter dated January 30, 2025, addressed to the President, Hon. Obong outlined several key concerns and requests on behalf of his constituents.
Subject: Appreciation for Visit to Lango Sub-Region and Lira City West Constituency
On behalf of the people of Lira City West constituency, local leaders, and myself, I warmly welcome you on your presidential tour to assess government development programs, especially the Parish Development Model (PDM). We express our heartfelt appreciation for your tireless efforts to promote holistic socio-economic transformation and wealth creation.
Your Excellency, I respectfully bring to your attention several interests, desires, and aspirations of the people of Lira City West constituency, and by extension, Lira City.
-
Lira Industrial Hub: We appreciate the establishment of this industrial development program. We request that the hub be transformed into an expansive and effective training school to develop the skills of the majority and that its activities be significantly increased to widen the base of beneficiaries.
-
Parish Development Model (PDM): This program is a great socio-economic intervention. We thank you and your government. However, we request that the funding allocated to beneficiaries be reassessed. The 100 million UGX provided is often inadequate, especially for parishes with more than seven villages. We request that more funds be allocated to such parishes due to their size and population.
-
Tarmacking of Lira University Road: Your Excellency, I humbly plead for your personal intervention to ensure this vital road link is tarmacked. Numerous requests have been made, but we are yet to see a practical response.
-
Te-Ilwa Forest Reserve: Community members of Anai and Bar-Apwo Wards within Lira City West Division have been evicted from this purported forest reserve, even after a court order restraining the National Forestry Authority (NFA) from doing so. I request your office to further assess this issue, as the community feels unjustly evicted with no alternative provisions made.
-
Expansion of Electricity Connection to Boost Industrialization: We lack electricity coverage, especially in Omito, Amuca, Bar-Apwo, and Anai, which are directly within the vicinity of the industrial hub. We request your personal intervention to direct the Ministry of Energy and the relevant power network agency to promptly connect these parishes to support emerging small-scale businesses and entrepreneurial activities. I have previously communicated this to the line minister.
-
Construction of a Modern Airport in Lira (Anai): The government previously designated land in Anai, Lira City West Division, for a modern airport, but this project has not commenced. Furthermore, the people whose land was affected have not been compensated. We plead that the government prioritize this and initiate the compensation process.
Your Excellency, we look forward to working with you to bring real transformation to our people.
May God bless you, your government, and your family.
Thank you.
Signed,
VINCENT SHEDRICK OBONG EYIT (MP) 07724229121 LIRA CITY WEST CONSTITUENCY
