Amuria and Kapelebyong UPC Leaders Defect to NRM

The defection of these leaders from Amuria and Kapelebyong districts marks a significant shift in the political landscape.

A group of leaders from Amuria and Kapelebyong districts, who were formerly affiliated with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), have officially crossed over to join the ranks of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). The welcoming ceremony took place at the NRM headquarters located at Plot 10 on Kyadondo Road in Nakasero, where they were warmly received by the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong.

As a gesture of inclusion and acceptance into the party, Secretary General Todwong presented the newly converted cadres with copies of the NRM constitution and the party’s manifesto for the period of 2021-2026. He encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the party’s core principles, which revolve around ideals of patriotism, pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation.




“I now officially declare you members of the NRM, with full rights to actively participate in all party activities. It is imperative that you acquaint yourselves with our party’s ideology and vision,” stated SG Todwong during the ceremony.




Expressing his congratulations to the new members, Secretary General Todwong commended them for their decision to align themselves with a party that advocates for peace, unity, and prosperity for all citizens. He extended a warm welcome, urging them to feel at home within the NRM fold.




The leaders who made the switch articulated their reasons for joining the NRM, citing the party’s vision for the future and its track record under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Ediau Samuel, the group’s leader and former Amuria county aspirant, emphasized the significance of their decision, emphasizing the positive impact of the NRM’s governance on the nation.

Counsel Awich Pollar, the NRM Director of External Affairs, reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of all Ugandans. He emphasized that the NRM remains dedicated to serving the interests of the people and working towards the realization of a better and more prosperous future for the nation as a whole.
