Patrick Amuriat, the president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, has claimed that his party has successfully defended itself against attacks from a faction based on Katonga Road in Kampala.

Amuriat made these comments during the launch of the party’s 2026 national voter mobilization program on Monday, June 10. This event took place at the FDC headquarters located in Najjanankumbi on Entebbe Road.

The launch was attended by high-ranking FDC officials, including members of the national executive committee, Members of Parliament (MPs), and all elected local government leaders from the party.

Amuriat described the past three years of the party’s political journey as being marked by constant attacks. He mentioned that these attacks included false accusations, envy, hate, insults, blackmail, coup attempts, threats against party leaders, and a harmful media campaign aimed at destabilizing the FDC.

Despite these challenges, Amuriat stated that the party members remained united and determined to defend and protect their party constitution. They made every effort to counter these attacks.

He emphasized that the internal conflicts within the party were effectively resolved during the 7th National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on October 6, 2023. He noted that the election of new office bearers during this conference showed that no one would be allowed to interfere with the party’s constitution for personal or political gain.

Amuriat congratulated everyone who participated in this election, which he described as being fiercely contested by negative internal forces.

He also advised those who were unhappy with the election results or who boycotted the elections to take the opportunity to get elected in future elections, particularly at the NDC scheduled for just before October 8, 2028.

Amuriat expressed his determination to complete the internal elections without delay. He mentioned that the National Council, acting on behalf of the NDC, would extend the term of the current electoral commission and take decisive steps to clean up the party.

Meanwhile, the Katonga faction, led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago as interim president, is currently seeking a viable strategy to run successful campaigns in the 2026 general elections. Other notable members of this faction include the FDC founding president Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who was the former party spokesperson.
