Bobi Wine has condemned the abduction and transfer of Kizza Besigye from Kenya to Uganda, urging Kenya to prevent such actions in the future.

(Luzira) – Yesterday morning, Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine and the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), visited retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye at Luzira Prisons. Dr. Besigye is a prominent opposition figure and a former presidential candidate in Uganda. According to Bobi Wine, the visit revealed that Dr. Besigye remains in high spirits despite his current predicament.

Bobi Wine criticized the manner in which Besigye was detained, alleging that Ugandan security forces, in cooperation with Kenyan authorities, abducted him from Kenya. He condemned the actions as a violation of international law, citing the lack of adherence to legal procedures required for such cross-border actions.

Once transferred to Uganda, Besigye was subjected to prosecution in a military court martial. Bobi Wine described the charges against him as baseless and unjustified. This approach has drawn criticism, as military courts are often seen as unsuitable for civilian cases.

The Kenyan government has publicly distanced itself from these actions, denying any complicity in the incident. Nevertheless, Bobi Wine urged Kenyan authorities to address the issue seriously and take measures to ensure similar events do not occur in the future.

Bobi Wine’s visit and public statement are likely to draw further attention to the case, which has sparked concern among human rights advocates and observers of Uganda-Kenya relations. Both nations face pressure to clarify their roles and responsibilities in this controversial episode.
