Bobi Wine’s Venue Cancelled, Forced to Relocate 8 Miles from Isingiro Town

"They insisted we could only have our rally over 8 miles away from the town. Totally unacceptable!" Imagine telling a boda-boda rider to take the longest route possible during a fuel shortage – that’s how Bobi Wine must have felt. The proposed new venue was not just inconvenient; it was strategically placed to dampen the enthusiasm of his supporters. It was a classic move straight out of the regime’s playbook, much like delaying a Kamunye just to make sure passengers miss the last ferry of the day.

Isingiro – Bobi Wine, the charismatic President and Leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), found himself navigating the tumultuous waters of Ugandan politics once again today. The young people of Ntungamo, with their energy rivaling the beats at a Kadongo Kamu concert, waited eagerly at every stage to show their solidarity and support for their idol. Bobi Wine couldn’t help but gush about their support on social media: “I loved the energy of the young people of Ntungamo yesterday. They waited for us at every stage to show solidarity and support.”

Table 1: Timeline of Bobi Wine’s Ntungamo and Isingiro Rally

Date Location Event Description
July 17 Ntungamo Enthusiastic crowds greet Bobi Wine at every stage
July 18 Isingiro Rally venue booking canceled last minute
July 18 Isingiro Regime operatives push for rally 8 miles from town

But as the rally caravan headed to Isingiro, the usual well-worn tactics of frustration and obstruction kicked into high gear.

Isingiro: The Rally That Almost Wasn’t

As the political convoy rolled into Isingiro Town, the plot thickened faster than a pot of porridge on a village firewood stove. Bobi Wine revealed that the regime had been pulling strings behind the scenes to frustrate his efforts. The owner of the planned rally venue, likely under pressure reminiscent of the old days of Milton Obote, canceled the booking at the last minute. It seems that political pressure can still move mountains—or at least, rally venues.

The security operatives then delivered a coup de grâce, insisting that the rally could only take place over 8 miles away from the town. “Totally unacceptable!” Bobi Wine declared, capturing the sentiment of his supporters who had hoped for a rally closer to home, not a trek worthy of a KCCA marathon.

Today, as we headed to Isingiro, the regime has been working so hard to frustrate us. The owner of the venue for our rally was intimidated and cancelled our booking at the last minute. Regime operatives insisted we could only have our rally over 8 miles away from the town. Totally unacceptable!

This isn’t the first time Bobi Wine has faced such challenges. His political journey has been marked by obstacles that would make the legendary Kintu’s trials seem like child’s play. From tear gas to arrests, the regime’s playbook is as predictable as the heavy rains in April.

Despite these challenges, Bobi Wine has remained a resilient figure, much like a cassava plant thriving in the toughest conditions. According to observers, his appeal to the youth, many of who see in him a beacon of hope and a symbol of change, only grows stronger with each setback. The energy and support from young people at his rallies are testament to a growing movement that refuses to be silenced.

One can’t help but recall the historic struggles of Uganda’s past leaders. From Kabaka Mwanga’s defiance against the British to Obote’s political maneuvers in the 1960s, the political landscape has always been a battleground of wills. Bobi Wine’s modern day crusade for democracy and justice echoes these historical battles.
