NRM supporters in Bukanga North Constituency, Isingiro District, are angry with the NRM Tribunal for failing to allocate a date for the hearing of Hon. Tumuhimbise Julius’s petition.
The NRM in Bukanga North is on the verge of collapse due to growing dissatisfaction among supporters over how the Tribunal is handling the case of their preferred candidate, Hon. Julius Tumuhimbise.
Supporters allege that Hon. Tumuhimbise won in most polling stations, making him the overall winner in the race. According to declaration forms collected by Hon. Tumuhimbise from each polling station in Bukanga, he reportedly defeated the incumbent MP, Hon. Nathan Byanyima, by a margin of 2,000 votes.
Hon. Tumuhimbise submitted his petition to the NRM Tribunal on 22nd July 2025, and it was duly received, stamped, and filed. However, supporters are disappointed that the petition did not appear in the New Vision’s list of scheduled hearings. To make matters worse, no date has been allocated for its hearing by the Tribunal.
On 28th July 2025, Hon. Tumuhimbise and his team submitted a follow-up letter, which was also received, stamped, and filed — but to date, no response has been given.
The big question remains: what is stopping the NRM Tribunal from giving Hon. Tumuhimbise a fair hearing?
Supporters further claim that the incumbent MP, Hon. Nathan Byanyima, used bribery during the elections. They allege he conspired with the District Registrar and Subcounty Registrars to alter declaration forms from the subcounties of Kakamba, Rugaga, Ngarama, and Rusasa.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing vehicles belonging to the incumbent MP transporting Subcounty Registrars to the district headquarters. It is alleged that the declaration forms were altered en route in his favor.
Supporters of Hon. Tumuhimbise Julius are now calling on the NRM National Chairman and President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to intervene in their concerns — warning that if he doesn’t, they will leave the NRM and join the opposition.
“We voted for H.E. Museveni with 98% in 2021. If he doesn’t come out to defend the people’s will, we shall not vote for him again,” voters vowed.
The NRM Party in Isingiro District is on the brink of collapse due to ongoing internal wrangles, as various political actors continue to fight for dominance and kingship in the district.
