NUP President Calls for Unity and Non-Violent Action Against Bad Governance

Bushenyi, Uganda – On Tuesday, National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine held a live interview with NTV, where he discussed pressing national issues for half an hour. In his interview, he urged Ugandans to take a stand against the poor governance demonstrated by the current regime.

After the interview, Bobi Wine, who spent the previous night in Mbarara, led his supporters on a journey to Ishaka, Bushenyi. In a surprising turn, the police did not interfere with their plans this time. The group arrived at the rally ground at 4 PM.

Rally Highlights

The rally attracted several officials, elected leaders, artists, and supporters. Bobi Wine used this platform to condemn widespread corruption, which the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) reports costs Uganda approximately UGX 10 trillion each year. He emphasized that this significant amount could be redirected to improve essential services if not misappropriated by corrupt officials.

Bobi Wine addressed the crowd, saying, “I want to ask you to stop supporting thieves in Government. Even if they bring money to you, that is your money, which should have been used to buy drugs in hospitals and repair roads.” He pointed out that the money lost to corruption could be used to build a better road network, stating, “Uganda has a road network of 36,000 km, but the money stolen every year is UGX 10 trillion, which could be used for all roads, including community access roads.”

The Message of Accountability

He further explained that funds wasted by the regime, including money spent on bribing opposition leaders, belong to taxpayers. “The money they give to the opposition is your money. The money used to celebrate birthdays is your money. They are going to use your money to keep you poor and eventually kill you. My message to you, especially young people, is that you must rise up,” he urged.

Bobi Wine emphasized the importance of non-violent methods for achieving regime change, drawing parallels to events in neighboring Kenya. He encouraged unity among Ugandans, saying, “Raise up nonviolently. In our generation, we do not believe in killing people, but we know that if we stand together, it is possible. The people’s power is very strong.”

Vision for a United Uganda

He expressed his vision for a future Uganda where all citizens are treated equally, regardless of their ethnic background. “There will be a new Uganda where there is equality and equal opportunities. You can be a Munyankole, an Acholi, or a Musoga, but we must be in a country that treats us equally,” he stated.
