Hon. Daniel Kananura, popularly known as Damazo, has declared his intention to challenge long-time Kira Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, in the 2026 parliamentary elections.
Kananura, a seasoned procurement expert with a Bachelor’s degree from Makerere University and a Master’s degree from the same institution, is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS). He is currently pursuing a law degree at Cavendish University.
In the 2020 general elections, Kananura contested for the Kashari North parliamentary seat on the NRM ticket. While he was unsuccessful in the primaries, he remained loyal to the party and supported the NRM flagbearer as an independent candidate.
Upon announcing his decision to contest in Kira Municipality, Kananura received overwhelming support from his loyal followers in Mbarara District, who gathered at his ancestral home to bless him on his new political journey.
As a dedicated supporter of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and the People’s League of Uganda (PLU), Kananura has actively mobilized support for the party in Kira Municipality since its inception in 2022.
His supporters believe that he is the right candidate to represent their interests in the 12th Parliament, given Ssemujju’s alleged inefficiencies in service delivery.
Ssemujju Nganda, who has held the Kira Municipality seat since 2011, is expected to complete his third term in 2026. However, his critics argue that he has lost significant support due to his failure to deliver tangible development to the constituency. They accuse him of prioritizing political rhetoric over practical solutions.
As the 2026 elections draw near, the political landscape in Kira Municipality is heating up, with Kananura poised to challenge Ssemujju’s long-standing dominance.
