KAMPALA, Aug. 1 (The Ankole Times) — Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has released a revised electoral roadmap, announcing the schedule for the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Justice Simon Byabakama, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, outlined the key dates for the upcoming elections. Nominations for presidential and parliamentary candidates will take place from September 17 to October 3, 2025. Following this, election campaigns are set to begin in the second week of October 2025.
The presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on January 12, 2026.
As part of the preparations, Byabakama noted that the demarcation of electoral areas and the reorganization of polling stations will start in August 2024.
In the 2021 general elections, a total of 11 presidential candidates contested, including the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni. Museveni won the election with 58.64% of the vote, defeating his main rival, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who received 34.83% of the vote.
The announcement sets the stage for the next electoral cycle and outlines the key milestones for candidates and voters alike.
