The former Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) aspiring flag bearer candidate, Susan Natukunda, has announced her decision to join the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for the ongoing Kisoro District general by-elections for 2024-2026.

This move follows the failed election of a UPC flag bearer for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, which was marred by disputes over the voting method and the presence of ineligible voters.

Natukunda criticized the outcomes of the UPC primary elections held at Bamboo Hotel in Kisoro Municipality, citing irregularities such as harassment of her supporters and vote-rigging.

She expressed her dissatisfaction with the results, particularly after UPC National Vice Chairperson Brenda Atim Kinyera declared her opponent, Ingabire Mabel, as the party’s flag bearer.

Natukunda urged her supporters to unite and collaborate with the PPP flag bearer candidate, Chimpaye Aisha, in order to succeed in the upcoming general elections in Kisoro District as a registered member of the People’s Progressive Party.

Meanwhile, Ismail Musiito, the acting Secretary General of the People’s Progressive Party, acknowledged Natukunda and her supporters for choosing the PPP as their new political home.

He further stated that the party is prepared to endorse Susan Natukunda as their candidate for the Member of Parliament seat in the 2026-2031 general elections.
